I want to play it at 1600x1200, with FSAA, the works (DX9).

This is what I have...

CPU: AMD Opteron 170 (2.0Ghz)
Mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
RAM: 2GB Corsair XMS PC3200 CL2 DDR(1)
GPU: eVGA GeForce 7900GT 256MB
PSU:Enermax Liberty 500W
OS: Windows XP SP2 with DX9C

My current thought is to upgrade to a EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB. Or what about the "new" 8800GTS coming out soon? Will that be much better than the current GT cards? Would one 8800GT allow Crysis to be quite playable at those settings or could I still expect sub 30 FPS? What about two 8800GT cards in SLI?

I am afraid I refuse to "upgrade" to Vista at this time.

Balls of steel and a computer to match.

I would like to say your comp looks fine, its the same as mine -2GB of ram, but from what ive been hearing about the people with 8800 cards.... it dosent look good. I think it will run medium/low on a 1024x1024 resolution, maybe. Or at least thats what im hoping my desktop will do.

I went from a 7800GT to an 8800GTS and i went from 30fps @ 800x600 medium settings to 12x7 high settings. I have a 8800GT on order and i'll be returning the GTS b/c one of the video outputs isn't working. I was planing on stepping up to the new GTS anyway when its out.

x2 4800+ @ 2.75ghz, 1950xt @ 690/950, 2gb ram = medium settings, no aa/af @ 1680x1050. Turning on AA results in a slideshow so bad it takes 5 minutes to turn it back off. This game is a monster, but looks amazing. Be sure to check out the tweaking guides that are all over the net, it's a very customizable game.

1680x1050, everything High, No AA.

~30fps, dropping to high "teens" at times, but very playable.

Actually, it looks pretty good, and least on my box. No AA, post processing on high, everything else on very high and it runs well, no slowdowns or hitching, under DX10 though. The way I understand it, DX9 will run in a similar way if you know how to tune the game and you have equal or better HW.

To play crysis you need no less than a 1950pro/8600gt(s) for crysis at the lowest settings. 7900gt shader is pretty weak so it will have a hard time. I was running this game with a 8600gts on medium settings until I got to ice level. I was hitting 5fps. I set my shader to lowest and finally 15 fps was my lowest fps.

I suspect you need a 8800gt(s) to play medium settings. It might play fine in the beginning but you will quickly have to change the settings to get playable frame rates.

To play on very high detail a dual 8800ultra won't even dent this game.

Have you played the ice level yet when you get out of the alien cave? You are in for a rude awakening if you think you could play high detail with a 8800gt.

When I was fighting the huge alien monster on the flight deck. I was dipping to 6fps at the lowest settings and hovers in the teens @ 1280x800 on my 8600gts and core 2 duo @ 3.05ghz. I'd imagine 8800gt can't do much better than maybe medium settings at the same resolution.

My sig is running this @ 1600x1200 on very high (shader set to high, shadow set to high) and no AA...I bumped it down to 1280x1060 or whatever the next one down was because people were saying I'd have problems with the ice levels...still looks great and i've yet to see even a bit of lag...so far i've only rescued the scientist chick

By the way, i'm using Dx10...

If you think you could run high detail on the ice level or flight deck you are going to get a wake up call.

I was running the game medium settings 1440x900 all the way upto the cave. Then ice level and flight deck I had to change to low settings and even lowered the resolution. Flight deck was worse.

Wow, seems to me that the 7xxx - 8xxx jump is by far the biggest in terms of performance.

I've got an E6400 oc'd to 3GHz, 2GB RAM, 7900GT (Vista 64) and I can't get it to run medium settings 1024x at >20FPS on the opening sequence. The benchmark puts it at 15fps. The new graphics card seems to increase that performance fivefold.

The game prevents me from continuing. I have gotten to a point where the game glitches every time and there is no way to continue. I will uninstall and await a patch.

They worked forever on this game and STILL have such obvious problems.

Game ran fine on my system in sig tho in DX9 with the tweaked files, dx10 was unplayable IMO.
