What do I need to make this?

I am trying to make a device like a dog collar, but for birds. I need it to have a remote (any size) and a receiver (small enough to strap on a pigeon) with a range of up to 200 yards. Any ideas where I can start/buy the components? Thanks!

You want a shock collar for pigeons? I don't like those things either but this is kinda excessive.

There are probably off the shelf transmitters you can buy by now - I dont think I've ever seen one put on a bird.

Maybe with one small enough it could be placed on the leg - why the neck?

Isnt 200 yards not very much for a bird?

What kind of information are you looking for? Direction? Range?

Heh my experience is limited to watching shows on PBS and the Discovery Channel.

It's possible, but I think wildlife professionals use pre-made transmitters specifically for the job, so you might be able to buy a few. Just out of curiosity: why? Training a carrier pigeon?

I am going to use the transmitter and receiver to activate a mechanical device that straps on a bird. The mechanical device I have already made. It basically straps on the bird and there is a loop of wire that wraps around one wing. The bird can fly with the mechanical device and once it is activated it keeps the birds wing from moving, hence the bird makes a semi-crash landing. I am making it so that I can train my bird dog on live game without having to shoot the bird. Now does anyone have any ideas of what will work for this application? Thanks!

I'm thinking it's a tracking collar.

No no, this is becoming a better and better idea the more I think about it.

In all honesty, shooting it is more humane than strapping all this stuff to it and then breaking its bones in a crash landing.
That being said, that amount of power and mechanics needed to do this would probably prevent the bird from flying in the first place. Pics of the mechanical device? What type of system will this depend on (motor, solenoid, etc.)?
Not saying it is impossible, the RF control would actually be quite easy, if not expensive.

I'm thinking he hopes to be able to use the same bird over and over again for this.

Well does anyone have any ideas for the information that I inquired about on the very first post of this thread?

No I don't. But I'm not sure I would tell you if I did, using a dog to hunt birds is cheating in the first place. I mean, it's not like you need to kill a lot of birds - it can only be about the sport, in which case the dog is bogus.

Dude, when people hunt birds, the dogs don't Kill the birds, mostly they just retreve them and sometimes scare them up. (Depending on how well trained you dog is). he seams to be trying to get his dog to bring back the kill. This is much better then him shooting the bird and leaving it there to rot because he can't find it.

Yeah, don't expect to be able to use this bird again and again if your'e forcing it to crash land. If you do proceed, could you please use this on Starlings only? These are evil, evil birds, and absolutely should be eradicated from this country. And this from an environmentalists perspective.

Is it bad that I laughed because your avatar is a bird?
