I'm looking to learn a bit about being able to record clear audio using my PC. By clear I mean no hissing, no crackling in the resulting file, just clear speech with no random sound artifacts. I have an X-Fi Platinum for my PC, so I would think I am good to go hardware wise.
I know the file I save the audio in is a big factor, but what about microphones, etc.? Are there particular microphones that are better suited for speech?
Thanks for any input. I know there isn't much to go on here, but I really know nothing about recording audio. A friend and I are thinking of making some machinima using the Source engine, and I want audio to be crystal clear, not sound like crap (which is what is happening with my $10 headphone/mic Logitech set).
