What do I need to install XP Professional on a HP Vista Laptop

What is my best option for installing XP Professional on a HP Laptop with Vista Home Installed.

Is there a good source out there to buy this?

I didn't know if I could use the OEM version or would have to install the full retail version.

You can buy an OEM license online for about $60. Just do a Google Shopping search .

You need to make sure that you can source XP drivers for that particular model. I once downgraded a Gateway from Vista back to XP, and I had a bear of a time rounding up drivers.

Any particular reason for wanting an 11 year old OS? If I was displeased with Vista, and didn't mind spending a little cash, then I would go ahead and buy Win 7.

I would agree here, win 7 is head and shoulders over vista and xp.

It's going to be difficult to find XP drivers for your hardware if it's from 2008 or 2009.

We need to load xp as the software our company uses only works on xp. It is software to service & repair equipment and the manufacturers have not released software to work on vista.

No one here can be of help, until you post up the Make and Model Number of the Laptop you want to install XP on. Then we can try and find all the drivers you need. Or perhaps someone has them and would be willing to provide a copy of them, if they can not be located on line.

The make is HP - but we need the model. With that, the necessary drivers, etc., can be downloaded from HP's support site. BTW - if you upgrade to Win7 Pro, you can then use Microsoft's XP Mode - a VM that will run all your legacy software.

You will need to know which video chip or card was installed. You should check this with device manager to see what hardware the unit has. You can also use a program like Aida32 or Everest Home Edition to find out information on the system.
