Hello,

I already have a Netgear 4-port wireless cable router that working fine. However, due to expansion in number of wireless devices (my company laptop, my wife's laptop plus my new PC), instead of laying ethernet everywhere, I used wireless instead.

I done some simple research of netgear website but couldn't figure what I need to buy to get it to work.

1. My current wireless router only provides one IP address, so that insufficient, right?
2. I need to get something call the wireless access point, right?
3. Is there something more in line with my budget ~USD$100, because the access point sounds expensive (they are able to support up to 254 connections)? I forsee that I will not need to pass 8 connections points (or 8 internal IP addresses).

TIA :D

Unless you made a mistake and called a Wired Router Wireless I do not understand the problem.

A Wireless Cable/DSL Router should support more than 50 Wireless Clients connections.

If your Router is Not Wireless, get one, they go for $20 on sale.

May be this can further Help.

For the links and sorry for the confusion by using the wrong terminology. Maybe I'm confused myself. :^)

My Netgear has 4 x 100 Mbps ethernet ports, a wireless antenna and one ethernet port for sticking to the wall. I stick the the outgoing port to the cable modem. I plug my server to one of the four 100 Mbps ports and it get assigned a IP address 192.120.0.2. I assume that if all four ports are plugged, IP adddress 192.120.0.1 - 192.120.0.4 will be used.

I switch on one of the laptops and it get assigned a IP address 192.120.0.5. How can my wife's laptop get assigned another IP address? Or am I confusing myself and that this is a non-issue as the device will assigned the sixth (192.120.0.6) IP address to her machine?

TIA!

The device would assign the sixth IP address to her machine - in the configuration you can normally set a range of IP addresses and it will then allocate addresses accordingly. For example, the router may be set to allocate IP's in the range 192.120.0.2 - 192.120.0.25 so you can have 24 connected machines.

Hope this helps

You won't run out of IP addresses. You should be able to hook up all the computers you want to. The Router has a built in DHCP server, which takes care of all the IP addressing. It should be plug and play for all your systems. You are really only limited by the physical connections, because you can add many wireless devices.

Good luck...
