what do i need to get to extend my wireless access

I got a fairly big house that and at some fair points of my house my laptop and AP won't connect. I have a netgear 802.11g setup. What do i need to extend the range accross my whole house?

put a repeater at a central point in the house & attach a Hawking Anntena to the repeater
