What do I need to do to import a motorcycle?

I'm looking to import a bike.

For the sake of brevity(riiight), let's set up a little personal history - or you can read just the bold part to get to the point;

- I owned an SV650, which I've gotten a friend to take because I'm moving out of the country (for a little bit - got an offer for a job) - I was immensely satisfied with the bike, mind you.
- I've been hearing over and over again about how Honda makes the world's best motorcycles from both people I respect and other sources (I used to work as an auto claims rep for the nation's biggest insurance carrier, so I can get pretty insightful opinions from shops and other sources); after owning/(barely)maintaining a Civic, I'm not surprised.
- I'm a sucker for modern standards/street fighters - I know I'd kill myself on a crotch rocket, I'm not a big trail rider, and cruisers just don't do it for me . . ..
- Having said the above bullet point, the US market is pretty dried up in the standard class, and other than the SV650, I'm not really interested with what's available.

I'd like to look into importing a Honda that's not available in the US Market - possibly the '07 Honda CB600F Hornet, or the '07 Honda VTR 250 (I'm not particularly worried about hitting obnoxious top speeds, obviously); or hell, just to add a twist, the oft-touted-as-brilliant Kawasaki ER-6; which none of them are available in the US (egads man!). :(
What kinds of expenses/procedures are involved in a venture like this? I mean, I'm sure it's not-so-very practical, but how much gobs of extra $$$ would I have to throw at the gov't to get it? If I get the 599, or the European version anyway, I'm sure it would comply to the US emission standards, since the European standards are much more strict; but has anyone else done this/would anyone know? Of course any help is appreciated!
