Just bought a house with a private well and got the water lab tested. Iron is 8.8mg/L, manganese is 0.69mg/L, chloride is 320mg/L, pH is 6.37, sodium is 110mg/L. I read that iron filter plus softener would work best, but then also read that with my pH level, the iron filter would not last long. Please help lol.

Don't ask amateurs (us) what to do, talk to people that do it for a living. They can make recommendations on what you need to correct your water problems. I have city water now but had well water most of my adult life. I gave them the results of a water sample and they said a softener of a certain capacity with a specific resin would work for me. They said that I was right on the borderline of needing an iron filter but they were very confident that a softener would get the job done.

I'm a handy guy and ordered the softener from them and installed it myself. The assembly of the softener is something that nearly everybody can do but the plumbing may be something that a person would want to hire out.

They were absolutely correct with their specs. The high iron content along with an odor problem were both corrected.
