What do I need to build a new computer?

Yeah, well, I want to build a new computer. What would I need?
All I know is that I need a motherboard, CPU, fan, and case. Everything else is pretty easy to install (RAM, hard drive, sound card, video card, cd drives, modem). But what's the hard drive controller and stuff like that?

when mounting the motherboard to the case, why do some of the stands need to be metal? can't you just use plastic stands?

First thing you need is a clue..

no seriously... if you dont know what you need... i wouldnt suggest starting yet.
kinda like a car... if you dont know what you need to rebuild an engine.. i wouldnt suggest trying.

Check out the various hardware sites. Many of them have &quot;how-to&quot; guides on putting a system together. I built my last system using these guides even though I had never built one before.

You need a buddy who's done it before. Trust me, having someone there who's done it before really helps. Even better if you're not payin em. Of course, if you dun have a buddy, i'll do it for 50... hehe.
