What do i need in order to hook up my Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo to my computer?

I have an old sound card, Turtle Beach Montego A3dXtream, and the headphone jack-to-sony reciever connection that i have setup stinks. There is poor audio quality, and the right speaker doesnt even work! What do i need to get a fully digital connection from my computer to my stereo, so that I can enjoy better mp3s and 3D gaming?

get a soundcard that has optical out or coaxial(electirc) digital out, all relatively newer creative cards has coaxial out, and the platinum versions has both optical and coaxial out, and all recent home theater receivers has both types of inputs
