hey guys, i just need to know the features i should look for when i buy my new scanner. i'm wanting to spend under 100 dollars but still get really good quality images, is this possible? please give me all the info i will need to make an educated decision when purchasing my new scanner. thank you.

Get the most expensive one 🙂

Kidding. Go to www.ReviewFinder.com after you went to CNet.com and Google.com and found a few reasonably priced scanners. It's difficult to make a recommendation because most nwer scanners have the same parameters (resolution, # of bits, single-pass scanning). Scanning quality and performance is what makes the difference, and for that you need to read a few reviews.

i second cnet.com for scanner reviews

as of christmas, the epson perfectionscan 640U was clearly the lower-priced winner out of cnet's tests.

it's tough to go on specs alone..you really need to find reviews

I recently posted a similar topic here and got a couple of responses but not too much. I posted a couple of questions at the end that never got answered but I think are useful. As a suggestion, at Staplesthey have the Microtek 3750i scanner for 49.95. I think this is what I will probably get since it includes OCR software, negative scanner attachment, and has decent specs. Hope this helps.

I think the Epson Perfection 1240u is the best out there right now, while one from canon that is very small is a good second. I have the Epson one, it is super fast and has excellent quality.
