My AMD 3200+ got fried...so what to do now

If i were to get this

Intel Pentium D 805 2.66GHz LGA 775 Dual Core,EM64T Processor - Retail

for 90 bucks, what other components do I need? I presume the ram I currently have is no dice..what about a MB? I've been out of the Intel loop since the Celeron 366's...

If you are going to go back to Intel, why would you go with the 805? Netburst is dead, if you have a socket 939 motherboard, just replace your dead 3200+ with an X2 3800+ which is far far superior to an 805, and you won't have to replace your motherboard or your ram. If you do switch to Intel, go with a core 2 duo, in which case you'll need a new motherboard, and in most cases DDR2(there is an asrock board that would let you use your existing ram).

Sorry, I know absolutely NOTHING about Intel, hence the n00bness. I believe I haev a socket 754, so I'm pretty shafted, since I'd want to get a new(er) 939 board, which is why I'm considering intel in the first place.

Current intel line up:

6600/6700/6800 : Conroe with 4mb cache, gorgeous chips. Good to brilliant overclockers.
6300/6400: Conroe with 2mb cache (like 4200X2 vs 4400X2), technically known as allendale. Brilliant overclockers.

Everything else: Junk or mobile CPU.

If you're not overclocking it's pretty much standard, buy as much as you can afford and justify.

If you are overclocking then the 6300 and 6400 are the best ones, the extra cache is nice and does make a difference, but the 6600s aren't OCing all that well and for the money it's just not worth it. The most important thing is the motherboard, the big two are the Asus P5W range (i think) and the gigabyte 965P DS3, most of the rest don't like overclocking.

You'd need to buy DDR2 RAM of course as your 754 uses DDR (unless you use an Asrock board with DDR and DDR2 support, but that should be avoided if you can).

thanks for the headsup guys

looking at the newegg deal right now

Anybody got anything to say about BIOSTAR ATX AMD Motherboard?

I'm currently using an asus board, so I would imagine it would be a major downgrade...but $110 IS $110...
