I'm gonna build a new system. I think I am gonna get a Soyo Dragon board, Athalon 1.4 chip, 40gig IBM drive, and 512mb of PC-2100 RAM, now what vid card? Should I get a 32MB DDR GeforceGTS or a KyroII with TV out? Both are about $100. I am an avid CS player, some times I'll play Unreal, or Q3 at a LAN, but mostly CS. I also like to watch Divx, and I wouldn't mind being able to burn Divx to VHS for the fam.

also, I have a crappy voodoo3 right now, which plays CS ok, but it's starting to get choppy. My friend has a K2, and it runs nice, but I can't get the friggin gamma up. So there are parts of the map where you can literally see nothing! Is this just a flaw of another card, or can I fix this?

n/m I just read alot of benches, I think I'll go with a Geforce Pro instead.

IMO, you should check the reviews in the videocard database thread.

This is the best way of deciding, short of buying both cards and deciding later.

All you're going to get, by asking, is an avalanche of contradictory responses, and people will flock to three different camps: those who'll say "check out the Radeon LE", the Kyro2 supporters and the Geforce fans.

at what resolution are u talking about? when u say spanked, what is the difference in fps? and is that fps really that noticable? also, i read u were into some multimedia stuff. ati cards are better in that aspect. i have a radeon myself and CS is the only pc game i play. i wouldn't have suggested it for the sole purpose of screwing u over. or would i?

Actually, for CS, I have a 1.4 Tbird with a v3 2k@180 and I run 1024x768x16. My fps are 60+ and I say that is plenty decent enough to play CS. The V3 has really good visual quality and 2D and the gama is really good when ur playing CS. Anyway, if I choose to upgrade, I would choose a Radeon because like you, I play CS mostly and sometimes UT. I also like to TVout my videos to the TV for the family and the Radeon will have way much better TVout than a GF2 Pro. Besides, even if a GF2 Pro blows a Radeon away in CS benches, ask yourself, does it really matter? I mean, getting 200 fps with a GF2 Pro doesn't improve gameplay all that much compared to 100 fps on a Radeon. (Those aren't actuall benchmarks, just using it for comparison sake). But that's just my opinion.
