Ok, so i bought a Pentium I-166 Mhz laptop with 48 MB and a 4 gig harddrive & 24x cd rom.

It has 2 PCMCIA slots. It comes installed with win 95 and everything works. The thing is, i need to get wireless internet access to this so my dad could use it.

Any ideas on what i should buy to do that? A link might help. :D

Check to make sure the PCMCIA slots are 32bit cardbus. Highly likely it's only 16 bit PCMCIA, which would require to you hunt down a 16 bit B wireless card -- all cards on the market have been 32bit cardbus for many many years now.

Trying to find something to work with that old operating system may be harder than climbing Mt. Everest.
Have you ever considered turning that machine into a LINUX Ubuntu rig? Your computer may satisfy minimum requirements.
It's an easier setup for your Dad, especially for surfing the net and writing email. All necessary software is free.

Here's 33.6K PCMCIA~MDM PC Card

Thanks for the link. Yeah, i considered ubuntu, but i heard that its CPU-hungry! My bro has the openoffice suite installed in another computer and it really looks cool, btw. :)

Ok, i just saw the link, and it looks like the one that already comes with the laptop. That is, the laptop owner gave us the laptop + this 33.6K pcmcia card, but i dont know what to do with the card. What do i connect to what? Is it wireless?

When combined with analog cellular phone, use it as a wireless modem.

Hope your father enjoys his lappy.

wifi cards have been about 9bucks at frys for a while...atleast airlink cards. that being said, 166mhz is dog slow. and yea its slots may be 16bit. win95 may not be supported. shopping around for something used would probably be abetter idea. win95 is just so old im' not sure its worth the effort.
