Just installed it last night and I thought I knew it. But I keep entering it (after a WindowsUpdate patch --> reboot)... and it's saying it's incorrect. I've checked for caps lock. It's the only user account on the machine (admin acct) as my name.

I don't mean to be asking for cracks, but I need something that will reveal my password like they had for WIN2k. Either that or any other help is greatly appreciated.

There is no way to show your password, but you can use a linux disk do reset the admin account.
google for something like "win2k admin password reset" and you should find it.

Thanks. I've found the Linux version. I know it says for NT... do you know if it does work for XP specifically? I won't be able to try until 5 hours from now.

I can't be 100% certain, but my gut tells me that it should work...maybe someone else that has actually tried it on XP can pipe in 🙂

Can you get in to the administrator account. if you can you should be able to reset your account in there.

I APOLOGIZE. XP apparently works different from WIN2k during install. During XP install, it gave me the option of adding "ALL USERS THAT WILL BE USING THIS MACHINE". So I proceeded to add 1 (my name).

Little did I know that there is automatically an account ADMINISTRATOR that used my password also. Apparently my password was locked out (I thought since my-name-account was the only admin acct, it can't be locked out)... but it did.

So now, I'm back in. Strange that WIN2k never asks you to add a name for other users... I always just used a renamed ADMINISTRATOR account and thought XP worked the same way. As you can see, MS tried to make it simpler during the install process, but it actually made it more confusing... for me anyway.

Thx for your help guys.

There is still the administrator account, access it by pressing Ctrl Alt Del (Reboot key sequence) twice at the login screen. Password is probably blank unless you actually put a password in there during installation.

Update: apparently I type too slowly hehe.
