What do I do now?(Overclocking help needed)

Ok i got a P4 2.4C processor on a the ABIT IC7-MAX3. along with 2x256 PC3700.
What can I do with it? and what is the best monitoring program for my MOBO. I have Winbond Hardware Doctor.

What is a reasonably range to OC to?

The RAM is Corsair XMS Series PC3700

start raising your fsb in 5 mhz increments checking each time if the system is stable until the system becomes unstable then stop. Your ram is good for i think 233 mhz so you should be able to run it in sync up to that point. after that you will have to use ratios most likely. Check overclockers.com and such for guides.

Yup, you'll need a divider. You'll want the 5:4 divider, w/ FSB of 266, making your memory run at 213mhz. That'll probably be as high as your chip will go. Although you can try for more.

To check stability use Prime 95

Loop 3dmark, and Sandra burn-in..

Boost your Vcore (CPU voltage ) about 5% at a time, keep it under 1.7v

Boost that ram voltage to 2.8v

Do all of that in BIOS when stability is an issue.

whenever I try and OC 5mhz I get a loud beep from the speakers on boot. And it never gets through the boot process

Would the sound in from the speakers be caused by me using onboard sound on my motherboard?

I have a 2.8 in a IC7 G. XMS 3500. I got those beeps because of bad ram timmings.
This is what I did and it runs stable.
FSB 220
1.1
Fixed
Volt 1.6
Ram Volt 2.8
Ram SPD If that does not work go to corsair and read the timming for your Ram.
I don't know what your cooling is but it will only go so far on air.

I tried bumping the FSB to 205 and i get a failed boot dont know what the prob is

I no this is a pain. List what you have in your bios in the Soft menu. It could be something simple, otherwise I would be shooting in the dark

Where can I find the multiplier? I have read and see things about it but I cant find any place to tweak it.

Corsair XMS series Latency 3-4-4-8 says its tested at 233 Mhz in high performance systems

ok i just tried 205 Mhz with DRAM ratio 5:4
and upped my core voltage to 1.625
and I get an error saying Boot from CD:
SYStem failure from the CD or something like that.

any suggestions?

set cpu speed to user defined

adjust to 210 or whatever yu want

nb strap. set to 800

Your dram. set to 1.1 not spd

agp is Fixed (important)

up your voltage to 1.6 should be more than enough

up your ram volt to 2.7 or higher

go to Advanced Chipset and adjust your ram settings to 3 8 4 4

You can not adjust the mutiplier on intel, only amd, your fsb will increase your cpu

I have a feeling you have been using AMD. Intel is easier to oc once you learn how

Now should I just up the Mhz by incremants of 5 and test with prime95?
