I was expecting my 256MB Crucial PC2100 shipped via UPS 2nd Day. It was probably dropped off at my front door, but the UPS guy didn't ask for a signature or anything, he just rang the doorbell and drove off.
NOTE: I didnt' have garage door open, or window open. in other words, there's no sign that anyone's home at the time.

I heard the doorbell, but didn't go get it right away (lazy). When I did go to get it about two hours later, there's nothing there!!! Now I know it MUST have been the Crucial RAM, since today's the shipping arrival date, and I saw the UPS truck driving away earlier.

I suspect it could have been anybody in my suburban neighborhood, ie. kids, dogwalkers, unknown people passing by.... But I obviously don't think it's my fault! So I'm not going to "eat this"! The problem now is this: WHAT DO I DO NOW???

Should I go after UPS, since they weren't acting responsibly while delivering?
I dont' know if there's a rule about signing for a package. Sometimes UPS would ask for one, and sometimes they don't, I could never figure out a pattern, doesn't see to relate to package value either..i've been asked to sign a $20 CDR pack. On the other hand, FedEx or Airborne Express always asked for a signature, etc.

OR.........

Do I contact Crucial about the missing shipment??
I don't know what I should tell them, or what they'll do or say!!! (I don't know if I should just say "I never received it" since it's delivered to my front door. I don't want to lie if I don't have to;)) The package's worth around $82, and I think every package's insured up to $100, so maybe they'll just send me another one??

OR........

Do I not call either place, and contact the local police instead??
I really don't think there's anything they can do. There's not alot of crime around...but I suppose freaky things do happen. But I dont think this is something the cops could recover. *sigh*

Anyhooo, if you've ever had some experience dealing with situations like this....plz let me know, or post here. Especially if you've had lost shipments from Crucial or lost packages with UPS. I'm really trying to find the best way to take care of this. And I hope someone's enjoying my DDR instead of some kid digging dirt with it! :frown: :disgust:

contact your nearest UPS hub with the tracking number and asked what happened to it.

If they said they dropped it off, then call crucial and tell them that you never got it (half truth).

Well, now you know not to be, so lazy.;) You should probably try UPS first. The package should require a signature, if they say it was signed for then ask to see the signature. Since you didn't even answer the door, I'm assuming that you didn't sign for the package.:) If UPS doesn't help you then definately contact crucial. BTW Why didn't you answer the door, besides being lazy? I usually open the door right away when I'm expecting a package.

I think if you live in a rural type area(suburb, small town, etc.) then they usually just leave the package at your front door. If you live in an apartment building, or something like that in a city then they usually require a signature, because a package could be easily taken if they just left it in front of the door.

First of all, did you check the UPS tracking # Crucial provided at UPS.com?

If so, then call UPS first and see what they will do for you. Then call Crucial if UPS doesn't locate the package.

I bought some computer parts and UPS dumped them on my front door step on a rainy day with a bag half on it. I have no clue how long it was there for when I came home. Luckily it didn't get wet.

since you have web access definitely try the tracking number on UPS's site.

if it said it was delivered, call UPS and crucial immediately.

maybe they thought no one was home so they didn't deliver it. Usually they post a note but maybe it blew away. For all you know it's gonna be delivered again today. This time answer the door.

How do you know it's the UPS man? I know a lot of 2 day deliveries turn into 3. It might have been someone selling something. I'd check with the tracking number and see what its status is.

I have to ask. Why didn't you just go answer the door? Wouldn't that have saved you all this problem?

i think he said he was "BUSY" doing something, "watching certain videos", for couple of hours (damn...).
anyways check the website with the tracking number first, it could have been just a salesman or something ringing ur doorbell.

"today's the shipping arrival date, and I saw the UPS truck driving away earlier."

You were expecting a package, heard the doorbell and saw a UPS truck driving away and did not go check.

Depending on where you live, that's not lazy that is not smart. But sure, contact UPS and see what they say. They should have had you sign for it.

Been there.... Done that.

the first person you want to call is NOT UPS, but rather CRUCIAL.

Ask them if they have a tendency to ship their packages WITHOUT requiring a signature. Tell them that you never received the package despite tracking saying "DELIVERED". THEY will contact UPS and should be able to shoot you off a new stick of RAM in 24 hours.

Heh....I just checked the tracking at Crucial and UPS... it was DELIVERED yesterday, location: Porch. :(

Thanks for the insights, I'll call Crucial right away....and keep you posted when I get some news.

This is getting me paranoid, I ordered from NewEgg my Epox 8K7A & 1.2 Tbird & IBM 60GXP around the same time!!! It should be here today or tomorrow (I'm not home). FEDEX better deliver these only when signed!!! Heh...if someone were to wait around my doorstep, they'd have enough for a new system. :p

oh man....this'll take longer than I expected. CSR at Crucial said they'll file a claim with UPS, and then they'll check. If after 9 days there's nothing, then they'll send another shipment. I guess my DDR system will have to wait until then. :(

I hate when they don't require a signature...we live on a hill, and the front driveway is about 40 stairs down the hill with trees blocking the driveway from the house.

I had about 5 or 6 packages delivered in the past few mos, and not once would the guy walk up the stairs to leave it at the front door..he would just "hide" it behind a tree in our driveway....I didn't even find one of the packages until two days later....I always thought we should call UPS if a package ended up missing, but thx for the info about contacting the sender first.

..sounds like you're going through the same places I went through....

I got one package from Newegg (mobo and vid card)...they send by FEDEX and do require a signature, so you should get that w/o a problem.

I have the same exact situation happens to me.

The package was shown as delivered, but I did not receive anything from UPS. Instead some funny name shows up as the package signer.

So This is what I did:

1. Call UPS and get the case "investigated" (7-10 days)
2. Make sure you call back UPS after 10 days and confirm with the investigator that the package is lost. Get the case number from UPS
3. Call Crucial and request for replacement memory. Give them your case number to speed things up. Otherwise they will open another case and you;ll need to wait 2 more weeks.

I got my package finally exactly one month after it's supposed to be delivered. Preety bad :(

I hope you're not in a hurry with your memory. If you are, go contact Crucial FIRST instead of UPS

I have UPS hold all my packages at the hub and then I go pick them up myself. Of course I live less than a mile from the main UPS hub in my city, so this might be harder for you.

It's just God's way of punishing you for watching a porno instead of getting up off your bed and opening the door with your sticky hands....
