I sold a laptop 2 weeks ago. Got the payment last week and shipped him the laptop. It is out for delivery for the 3rd day in a row. What do I do if he doesnt take delivery again today and it gets shipped back to me? I havent gotten a reponse from him in the last week. If he wants his money back do I get to keep some of it for my time and hassle of everything? What the heck should I do?

Tell the person the delivery was attempted 3 times and it was returned back to you.
if he wants it shipped he'll have to pay shipping charges again.

I wouldn't charge him a fee. Just send him an email or voice message saying you'll hold on to it until he gets back to you, and that he's gotta pay shipping. Don't be an a$$hole about it and charge him a fee (can you even do that legally?).

UPS and Fedex will hold the package at their local depot for a week or two for pick-up before shipping it back to you.

What's up with taking a week to pay you? Damn! After that, I surely wouldn't go out of my way to please the buyer if it does get returned to you. I wouldn't refund any shipping charge, and if he wants it sent again, charge for shipping again. (Unless it turns out that you put the wrong shipping address on the package or something after he provided you with the correct one.)

They'll hold it for a while till he picks it up by himself. You're getting too far ahead of yourself.

Yes, but you're an uber smart asshole. :D:p

Damn skippy!
:p

I charge 20% because that's my markup. I'm not in the business of losing money.. if I can help it. ;)

Thankfully, I've never had any significant problems, and have never had to deal with a return... *knock on wood*

It depends. If paypal was used, you really can't keep a penny since the buyer can just chargeback the whole thing stating it was never delivered (which it wasn't if it's returned to sender or refused).

It was paid for via paypal. I have since transfered all of the money out of my paypal account and into my bank account.

Paypal isn't going to help the seller in a situation like this. If you can't come to some sort of agreement with the buyer (which it looks like since he doesn't seem to reply to his emails), then you'll pretty much have to refund his entire amount, or else he can simply click on the complaint process on paypal and ask for the entire amount to be refunded. So if you withhold even one dollar, he can retrieve that back from paypal, through you, without sweat since tracking would show delivery back at its origin. Doesn't matter if the funds are not in your account either, as paypal is notorious for making an account go negative. Outstanding negative balances can be referred to a collection agency, affecting your credit rating -- that's right, even if it's just one dollar. Something trivial as that is not worth a bad note in your credit file. I would simply click the refund button on paypal, this way you don't eat any paypal fees. File a non-paying bidder alert on ebay as well, so you get back your final value fees.
