i just got an LCD and there are 2 dead pixels right now. i have had it for about 4 days. should i send it back or not? they are up in the right hand corner and barely noticeable...one is blue and one is red. i have never dealt with this kind of thing before, but is there a policy from most places that there has to be a certain number of dead pixels before you can return it?

thanks...

Where did you buy it? If you have only had it four days then take it back to where you bought it and get a replacement.

yes, most places specify X number of pixels on the whole screen, or two within X inches of each other, something like that

check out/call and see what their policy is

good luck!

Newegg wants 8 or more dead pixels before they will replace it. Many other online retailers are similar.

They should take care of it if you are within your refund timeframe as you can always just return it for a refund if they won't replace it for you.

Take it back dude, you paid for an LCD with 100% working pixels. Don't settle for less... your hard earned dollars demand it! They scream from beyond the grave!

Usually there is such a number, I've heard numbers live 4, 8 and above. You may check with the vendor what their policy is.
I do have two dead pixels on my laptop screen (bottom right) and I can barely see them. I could've return the laptop (they have 30-days no-questions-asked return policy), but I decided to keep it because the machine was otherwise ok and because I could not see the dead pixels during normal usage of the machine. If I am not looking at the screen when booting the machine (when the screen is black) I would not know that they existed. However, if they were noticeable during normal use I would've returned the machine.

"they are up in the right hand corner and barely noticeable"

I wouldn't tempt fate. Keep it. Who knows what the replacement will be like.

see if you can massage the pixels back to life, it never hurts. just remember to clean it afterwards with an approved lcd cleaner.

He wants you to get out the tiny little shock paddles: ...Clear! bzzzt!....Again! bzzzt....damn you pixel don't die on me!!....(thumps LCD with fist).

Afterwards Mday'll cackle maniacally as you try to get a refund for your scorched and battered LCD.

Nope, he's serious. Use a Q-Tip and GENTLY apply pressure to the dead pixel. I tried this on my Inspiron screen and couldn't revive mine. It was about 5 pixels tightly packed together. Called Dell and they replaced the LCD no questions asked. Anyway, you might get lucky and get them to revive. If not, then you could always go the return route. :)
