Yeah but sometimes it's fun to open Google Earth and just spin that globe round and round in random directions. Europe Africa Antarctica Pacific Pacific Pacific Arctic Ocean Europe
I used to do that with an analog globe, and carefully study the area my finger stopped at on the globe. Yea, I was easily amused :^D

to be honest, I don't spend much time wondering about what flatearther type people think about anything.

You should they have amazingly complicated explanations as to why the oceans don’t drain off the earth, how the sun produces light but the moon absorbs lite and the moon & sun do a complicated dance around the earth.

I really still don't know if any of them legitimately believe it or if it's just a fun ruse to screw with people. Maybe that's just my inner desire to maintain what faith in humankind I have left.

I sort of agree. I think the people who take the time to make the elaborate sun & moon dance plots & videos are doing it to troll, I think the dumb dumbs that promote the idea are dumb dumbs

I think there's a decent chunk of them that do, but in the abstract sense, by that I mean they don't really have much understanding of this stuff (full on, I think its outside their ability to comprehend, and they recognize that, but can't admit it), and I think they honestly don't even actually care that much (I think there's a healthy bit of fear - basically this is their excuse for not wanting to explore space and the cosmos, although some of that might be due to their often belief in various extraterrestrial stuff), but they have to believe this, because its the only way their broken brains can rationalize everything else.

They genuinely believe they've stumbled on this great complex conspiracy, and this is just the next level in what they need to believe in order to believe all the other conspiracy garbage they believe that is their actual overriding focus. And that's how they got there, because they had to keep expanding the ridiculous bullshit as at every turn there's things where if they actually accepted rational logic, it would unravel everything, so they were forced to apply their broken logic to an ever expanding assortment of topics.

Just wait, its going to get more insane too. Keep in mind, they had to start believing in flat earth to support shit like interdimensional bigfoot. Which, oh by the way, bigfoot isn't really bigfoot, its more of like an entity that just takes the form of bigfoot, for...reasons. But something something, he's an interdimensional traveler that may or may not be good/evil/just a trickster (so basically you know, any explanation could work if you want it to).

Ugh, listening the Last Podcast on the Left, while often being reasonably entertaining, I've gotten to really dread so much of the conspiracy and other shit that they delve into because to even just think about it in abstract way you have to unhinge your brain, and not in a fun way, in a "you've got to be a fucking dumbass" way. Anything remotely related to "High Strangness" which is just asshole speak for trying to legitimize fucking crack pots and their crazy bull shit makes me The saddest part is seeing people that desperately want to believe in stuff like that, but the logic parts of their brains are locked in like a life and death struggle to keep them from just turning legit insane (and they're cognizant of that), is kinda scary. And then finding out just how many people are in that state or already went over the edge is especially scary. It really makes it difficult to remind myself that stuff like that used to be even more rampant.

Ewww you're both dirty federal employees? :p

Can you give us a tour sometime? Always wanted to see the astronaut training area. Mission Control gets boring.

I used to have access to the training mockups but I moved a few years back to safety and I think my access has expired.

That being said your wife should be able to take you up on the cat walk that the space center Houston tours use that over looks the mockups. It’s basically always open and normally doesn’t require badge access.

I was talking with a friend about flat earthers the other day and I want to meet one and ask them just what is the legit reason they decided to believe the earth is flat. Like there had to be a tipping point, and I'm genuinely curious what it is. I don't think I've ever heard anyone really say that.

Obviously, some of you have never looked at a map - flat as a pancake ;)

The Dymaxion projection was first shown to the world in 1943. Since that time, nobody has come up with a single use case for it.

How do flat earthers explain the moon? Is the moon flat too? How do they explain the math of its orbit and the fact that you only see a crescent in the sky?

I started watching that Netflix documentary Behind the Curve. I had to turn it off like 40 minutes in. I couldn't take it. Like these people flat out dispute facts. It is a bit comical though.

It's bad enough that these morons try to disregard actual science and physics with their made-up explanations, but the kicker is,
to them, all of NASA is one giant conspiracy. Everything regarding space launches with NASA, never happened.
All the photographs of our landings and fly bys, are all altered/photoshopped images.

Regarding the moons, I remember reading that they believe that the sun and the moon are approx the same size (ea 30 miles in diameter?)
That's their explanation of why they appear the same size in the sky to us, as observers, and that they both exist about 2500 miles above the earth.

I read a little on their website a few years ago just to see their explanation for the simple things, like satellites.
They say that satellites don't exist. That's their spiel, when they can't refute or explain it, they just say it doesn't exist or it never happened.

Ugh, I looked up to see this.

The explanation of eclipses are from some thing called the X-moon (I shit you not)
Gravity is a hoax and the tides are not caused by the moon but by earth-magnets, at the bottom of the sea.

This particular guy does say satellites exist. In the 10+ years since I looked they probably had to admit/account for satellites in some way.
He does mention Antarctica. They say its not a continent. It's actually the wall that holds all the sea water in. Or something to that effect.

OK, that's it. I feel dumber than when I first started to type this.

Both these maps are almost correct, simply use the foot print of the bottom mapbut connect the ice from the "North" & "South" "poles" (wow can that statement get any more strange) sort of like the blue box is around the top map. The ice sheath holds all the water in like a cup.

as my previous post most flat eathers believe gravity is under the earth somehow, and the only thing holding the water on the earth is the ice sheath around the planet. We were fortunate enough to be born on a planet that is shaped like a cup or a saucer plate to hold all the stuff in. The walls are the Ice.
