what do enermaxs do for case temp?

ok. i've got the EG451P-VE model. 430W w/ 92mm intake fan, 80mm (temp controlled) exhaust.

my case temp is 23 degress so the 80mm fan is at it's lowest setting.

the 92mm fan is not temp controlled (at least to my understanding). at the lowest 80mm speed the 92mm airflow is "overpowering" the 80mm so a good portion of the flow is exiting the vents on the back (inside the case) of the PSU!!

this does not seem like a good thing since this is the warm case air from above the CPU. any thoughts?

um, disable the temp control? you have to open and solder.

if you want, you can actually mount a fan to that vent area... to blow air towards the PS's innards.

anyway, i have exhaust above my PS, so i don't worry too much...

MDay - Is that mod you're talking about pretty straightforward? Is there a site that shows how to do this?

I'm no EE, and have limited soldering experience (read - mostly copper water pipes! no electronics) so I'm looking to bump up the RPMs, but not anything to complex.

If your case temp is only 23 degrees, why are you even worried about it?

Mr. Helpful - I haven't got temps up to ever switch speeds yet, but that 80mm fan is dribbling air. I'm pretty sure that that one, at the very least, is temp controlled. Perhaps the 92mm one is as well.

Russ- OK. My case temp is quite good, I have to admit that. This is not really a quest to lower this, but I think it's just my background and job in R&D (data driven, but in finacial services), that makes me curious about this design.

Also, others may not have my low case temps, but I thought I'd point out that the way the airflow currently is with mine, the inflow from the 92mm is going both out of the case and recirculating through the vents back into the case.

What doesn't make total sense to me is why the two fans are different sizes? Why not 80mm in 80mm out? Or have matched CFM ratings, or maybe have the exhaust at a higher CFM than intake (to make the front "intake" vents really intake)

I'm not sure about the new model Enermax, but I recently opened up an EG351P-VE (330w) and checked the voltage at both fans- 5v at room temp. I ran the 92mm off to the side, blocked the 80mm, and used a heat lamp to raise the temp of the internal thermistor. As everything warmed up, both fan voltages went up incrementally to a max of 11v. I didn't measure the temps, but I got the impression that it has to get quite warm before 11v is reached.

Couple of things I've been meaning to try, way too busy:

1. Short the thermistor leads together, NOT to the case. This should give max fan rpm at all times.

2. Put a small 50k potentiometer in parallel with the thermistor. Dialing in less resistance should raise the room temp fan voltage and allow max voltage at a lower temp.

At your own risk, of course.

One thing for sure with any of the FC models is that the three wire fan plug must be enegized for the 80mm to run at all.
