What Digitizing Tablet to Give as XMAS Gift?

My daughter (a budding artist) has hinted that she would like a digitizing tablet for Christmas. I have started to do some research and have come up with two choices from Wacom, who seem to be highly respected in this field.

She primarily used Gimp, on Windows XP Home. Most of her artwork is pen and paper style drawings, although she does some photoshop type stuff.

These are the pen tablets that I am considering:

Wacom Intuos3 6x8

Wacom Graphire4 6x8

Any thoughts? What size would you recommend?

If the Intuos3 is a bit out of your price range you might consider a reconditioned Intuos2. A great reduction in price for something that is still near as top of the line. I'm not sure though, they may only be available off of the european site.

Are you saying that the Intuos product line is better for artists than the Graphire product line?

I can afford either one of these, but I want to make sure that what I buy is the right product for the use intended.

if you do a compare, and sselect both, you'll see the differences. the intuos is the Pro line, and is priced higher. comes with more capabilities, and more importantly, a more sensitive drawing area.

Honestly, I've never used the Graphire but as Intuos line is the industry standard and if she is doing anything that requires a real gentle touch then the Intuos is the way to go.
