I'm looking to upgrade my digital camera that is several years old (Canon Digital ELPH S200)

My requirement is the new camera must take great pictures and able to record high def videos @ 60fps. Oh and it must be a pocket camera, not something big and clunky to lug around.

About the only one that I am aware of is the Panasonic GH1 which will not fit in your pocket. I have seen a few models lately that will do 1080i60 and plenty that will do 720p30, but none at 720p60. Some of the Kodak pocket models will do 1080p60, but if you definition of "great pictures" is the same is mine be sure to research it throughly.

Be careful when looking, some of the cameras will record 720p30 and save it as 720p60, therefore every frame will be shown twice.

I totally agree, I would rather have a camera that will do 720p60 than any other common resolution, but most of the people that buy these things only look for the biggest number and that is who they build them for.

I'm not sure where the sweet spot is for something that is going to take decent 720p 60fps video and good stills. As far as I have found if you want it to be portable and inexpensive you're either going to get good video and so-so stills or good stills and so-so video.

I tried to find one that does both for my recent vacation but ended up just buying a Kodak Playsport for less than $150 instead (I wanted pocketable, rugged, waterproof and 720p 60fps). It does gorgeous video outdoors but the stills have something to be desired. Fun camera to lug around though. I just made sure I also brought my Canon 790IS if I wanted better still shots.

You should probably check out the latest Canon models (taking a quick glance the SD4000 only does 720p at 30fps).

ya, takes 30p footage and records it @ 60i . looks "better", but still @ 30fps

I'm pretty sure it's not even interlaced, but frame-duplicated.

Really, I have no idea why other than to try to stick to AVCHD standards. I'd much rather they just used an mp4/m4v container with 30fps video and aac audio @ 160kbps instead of fake-60fps video and ac3 audio @ 192kbps inside of an AVCHD-lite format (.mts).

They'd really save me some hassle and file space.

Droid X will do 720p @ 24 fps... and it fits in your pocket.

You can stop lugging around your Canon, your ipod Touch, your Magellan GPS, your laptop, and your old cell phone as well.

Just make sure you have access to a power supply to recharge the battery!

:p
