I looking for a digital camera that recordes the image to some type of disk. I prefer cd or some type of "fast" type of media. Any idea who makes cameras that you don't have to hook to your PC..

Also Lithium recharge capabilty would be nice. Thanks:)

well, if you want a CD camera, you will probably be looking at a Sony. Though, what exactly do you mean by fast memory? Flash memory cards are solid state and will be faster than the CD-based or floppy based systems. As far as not hooking it up to the PC, I am assuming thats why you wanted the disc? I would get a reader for the flash card and get a flash memory based camera. The Sony CD-mavicas are nice, but a little overpriced IMHO. What exactly will you be using it for?

For mothers day basically. Mom is a techophobe who still has'nt figured out where the floppy drive is.

-So hooking a camera up to the PC with cables and cords is out of the question.
-battery changes will bug her and even confuse her hence the rechargable lithium.
-she travels A lot so I would like her to have unlimited picture taking ability and media allows for this
- a flash reader in the PC is a bad idea because her office will not allow for PC mods

So is the Macivas the only game in town? Wow $599 for the "low" end CD model.

You wont find many available out there, since writing to floppy (too small capacity) or CD is SLOW... almost all digital cameras use either Compact Flash, SmartMedia or Sony memory sticks...

You can get an external CF or Smartmedia reader which just plugs into the USB port of a PC... That wouldnt be call mod, would it?

I agree.... it would be quick and extremely easy to setup. The CF card shows up as another drive in My Computer and Windows will probably have the driver for it already.

All she had to do is double click the drive and viola! All her pictures are in there.

Actually, I just got done reading a review of the Sony MVC-CD250here and they said this camera has a three shot instant shooting, which means it has some type of memory inside for up to three picts shot quick then writes it to the cd from memory.

yeah dude go compact flash or smart media. You can fit an assload of big pics on a 128mb stick of smart media. And you can grab a stick of 128mb smart media as low as 30 bucks on porice watch I think...

If you want a badass cam, go for THIS

Which OS does your mother have? XP would be the best esp for digital cameras/scanners.

You can easily do all this for $300 but it's not as as easy as inserting a floppy disk or blank CD into a digital camera.

1) $200 should buy her a decent 2.1 megapixel digicam from HP or Fuji or Canon. This is more than enough for e-mailing pictures or creating a website.
2) $100 in accessories like 64MB CompactFlash or SmartMedia, a card reader, some rechargeable batteries and possibly an A/C adapter.

Actually if she is not comfortable using a computer, I don't know if it's a good idea to give her a digital camera....even with the sony cd cameras, you still need to know how to move files around, etc. Maybe just a nice film camera would be better for her. Plus those Sony mini cd camera are HUGE! and weigh a ton.

or maybe see if your local walmart accepts compactflash cards...then she can fill up a 256mb card, go to a walmart, and have them print all the pictures out for her ($0.26 a print, not too bad).
