What difference does it make if I have my monitor driver installed?

I found I got better refresh rates when I installed my monitor's drivers. There is also the matter of loading up the monitor's colour profile which would install with the driver.

Like ethebubbeth said, install driver probably gives you more accurate list of refresh rates your monitor support. With newer monitor, u usually get to choose higher rate for a given resolution.

I like to install monitor driver b/c i think it's cool when it actually says the monitor's model in display property instead of that "default display" =)

For some reason my monitor's drivers limit the refresh rate to *way* below what it says it can handle. It only wants to do 85Hz @ 1280x960 when it can do 107Hz.

Or maybe it's your video card that's limiting the refresh rate

Nah, it works fine if I pick another monitor driver to install.
