What difference does a 12X DVD make over a 2X DVD???

This might be a silly question??? But if audio is played at 1X through a reg. CD player... Then is a reg. DVD player a 1X also??? So comes the question what adavantage does a 12X DVD player have on a 2X ???

It's faster so whn you will have to use the dvd drive for something other than playing a dvd movie it will be alot faster.
