What difference between x2's and opterons?

X2's are dual core desktop processors. Not all Opterons are dual core, and they're meant for workstations/servers so they go through extra validation to make sure they're of the highest quality and reliability.

From a reliability/quality standpoint, yes. That doesn't necessarily mean you should buy an Opteron instead of an X2 though.

opterons also have more cache than workstation cpu's so they run databases and other cache demanding stuff faster, but cache is very epensive so thats why opterons are more expensive
