When I was really little I wanted to drive bulldozers and make roads. As I got older I wanted to design them.

When I finish college this year I will hopefully be building tunnels. If I can get a job.
Anyone know of any that need to be filled?

Lot's of demand for construction jobs right now, depending on where you are. Even if you just start as a labourer. Did you take civil engineering?

Fighter pilot in the Marine Corps. Then my eyes went to shit.

Ended up in construction management which isn't as awesome but I love the work (90% of the time). For fun I skydive which is a type of flying. Another 100 jumps and I can start wingsuiting.

wanted to be a garbage man so i could ride on the back of the trucks

i told my dad that and he replied, "fine by me as long as you finish college." Got laid off from my senior developer position about a month ago and replaced by a handful of interns, so i may have to look into this...

Wanted to be a brain surgeon, too. Ended up going to a state university and got a degree in MIS. Worked for a couple companies doing related work and getting great experience. I'd say I'm pretty happy.

Wide receiver/tight end for the San Francisco 49ers (I only gave it up when I agreed to go to a high school that did not have football.)

A Park Ranger.

I thought it would be so awesome to hang out in the woods, checking out nature. You get to drive a pickup around in nature, be outside all the time, wear a cool hat. Making sure campers are following the rules. I mean basically you are getting paid to do what people pay for when "camping" nowadays. Of course there is work associated with it and I'm sure it pays really bad.

Instead I work in IT and am inside 10 hours a day :)

Lots of stuff through the years.

Paleontologist when I was really young.
Make video games or be an author a bit later.
Scientist/inventor or make video games 'til early junior high.
Engineer, programmer or astronomer/physicist through high school.
Settled on engineering as it seemed like the best middle ground of my interests outside of astronomy.

A ballerina. Unfortunately I found out at an early age that I had rheumatoid arthritis.

That sucks. I hope you're able to manage pain alright. I have osteoarthritis in both feet and, as a Chef who's on his feet all the time, it may be a photo finish with my ability to work and retirement.

I wanted to be a plumber, then a bit down the line I wanted to be an electrician. Then when I got older we got our first computer, and I wanted to be into IT and that's where I am now.

I should have sticked with the original plan, those guys make more money. :p

Hell yeah. I regret getting it IT in the 80s. Still struggling due to the POS economy. I should have learned a trade that doesnt change.

A horse trainer, until I found out the same. And that that isn't exactly a paying profession for most people.

On a side note - hurray for medical science and good RA drugs!
