I wanted to be a child porn star, but by the time I was legal, I'd grown out of it.

When I was really young I wanted to be a plumber since I was obsessed with pipes, when I got a bit older, I wanted to be an electrician as I liked playing with electricity. Then once we got our first computer I wanted to be a computer technician, but those don't make much money, so I just wanted to be anything in a technical field. As I got older and got to know computers and the possible career paths I decided I wanted to aim to be a server tech which I did eventually become and did for a few years. Now I'm a NOC tech (network operation centre). We monitor alarms and act on them, fairly cushy job but also high paying. It's the type of job that you need to know a little bit about everything, which kinda fits in a lot with me. I'm not really an expert at anything but know enough about a lot of things. Kinda like Tyrion Lannister. I drink, and I know things. Except drinking at work is apparently not allowed for some reason. :p

Looking at job security of trades vs tech, maybe I should have went with my kid dream and became a plumber or electrician though. I have a good job now mind you but if I lost it, I would be kinda screwed. Tech moves too fast so there's not lot of job security in that field compared to trades, and most tech job departments are seen as an expense rather than an asset. It's kinda like janitorial or building maintenance.

But if there's one thing, one of the things I could not wait for is to just be an adult with a job and a house and more freedom than a kid. Ex: can make my own decisions. And I'm there now, so it's kinda crazy to think about how it felt so far away as a kid.

Only thing, as a kid I did not realize just how expensive living is. When I would hear how much money someone working full time make per hour, as a kid I did not account for the fact that you lose half of that to taxes and other deductions, and the fact that whatever is left over goes mostly to bills, then after that there's not much left. So yeah, I have more freedom as an adult, but it's mostly limited by whatever money is left over after everything is paid. I can't just build anything I want or buy anything I want like kid me thought I could.

At one time, i.e. in high school, I wanted to be a scientist. Someone made fun of me for that. I never had a particular career ambition as a youngster. Didn't want to paint myself into a corner. Kind of wanted to know everything. Or, at least enough where the rest didn't matter! ;)

I am surprised you didn't become a crazy gynecologist murderer or something. :)

Actually his life/career path was/has been/is IMO remarkably stable and effective. My story is far more disjointed and strange. But for me it was a question mostly of where/when, circumstances were not propitious to become a this or a that.
