Just announced. Google is selling Motorola to China's Lenovo.

The company also expressed confidence in Moto's existing team, and in the short term, it does not appear there are plans to close its Chicago headquarters or start laying off employees, including the executives. Though, things sound less rosy for employees at the Texas plant where the Moto X is manufactured. The company said only that it would do what made sense to grow the brand, and would not commit to keeping existing manufacturing jobs in the US.

Don't tell me Obama didn't know about this off-shoring of jobs to China last night! Bye bye more manufacturing jobs!

We send them jobs and then money to buy their stuff. At some point, they not only sell us ALL of the stuff that we buy daily, they then take the money from the stuff and buy our assets (companies, land, etc).

As for the OP, did I miss something as I didn't see anything asking for a delay of announcement by the administration? But to that end, now, instead of CEO's and boards offshoring jobs, they are selling the companies to China and will let them do the offshoring.

About half the reason I went Android with my Droid Maxx was because Moto was starting to manufacture in the US.

Between this and the Google / Apple cartel fixing wages, it looks like the only game left in town is Microsoft for those wanting to vote with their wallets.

It seems like a pretty massive stretch to go from "American company sells affiliate to Chinese company" to "the President purposely quashed news of this until after the State of the Union address" without a shred of evidence to support it. Why on Earth would you assume that the President of the United States has intimate knowledge of the business decisions of Google?

Because he's a far right nutball.

I guess even though I and others cannot find a reference to the OP's title that Obama asked for a delay. The article does not mention the Obama administration at all.

Win 8 phones are pretty good, particularly the Nokia ones. The app store is a bit of a disappointment though.

Is this backwards land? It's conservatives who believe that jobs going overseas is a good thing... They call that the free market.

Not to go off the subject too much, but I just played with a Win 8.1 tablet today- it had an I5 in it and was basically a little laptop. I have always thought tablets were just neat little devices, but this tablet changes the game. That said, I won't be buying one b/c I don't need it (don't have any "smart" devices), but I think MS made the right move now that I saw this thing. iOS and Android devices really can't compare unless you just want an expensive little toy.

Now to comment on the article (I fell compelled to, not that I want to): I don't know if Obama knew about this. If he did, obviously he is not going to mention it b/c he is going to highlight the "good" things, not the bad. I wouldn't expect him to mention this as it would detract from his speech. If you are calling his integrity in to question, well obviously he, as with most politicians, do not seem to have alot of integrity.

This. It's your hero the free market at work! You didn't want dictator Obama to socialize Motorola, did you?
Make sure to vote Republican so Google's CEO pays no taxes on his bonus!

I think you just spew shit thinking no one will call you on it because you have no fucking clue what a free market is. After all the manipulations government does you call this move "free market"? Government intervention has nothing to do with it.... You live in fairy land mr pony.

Motorola mobility has been a money loser for a long time. Google picked it up almost solely for its IP and is keeping the IP with this sale.

If you were in the Industry this is old news, has been in the works a long time.

Of course you have ODS - Obama Derangement Syndrome that everything is Obama's fault.

Just like there was a lot of BDS - Bush Derangment Syndrome.

The difference is most of the time it really was Bush's fault and continues to be.

Had he included that in the address last night it would have been a great point to make against the Congress.... Something like: We have to enact programs to keep companies like 'X' from shipping American jobs overseas.
Get something on my desk next week or I'll see if I can do it myself...

But... He was being less antagonistic last night than I'd have been. I'd have written something a lot more pointed directed toward the far right tea clutch folks as well..

(assuming he knew)
