What did I see last night

Driving home at 4am, I saw something that looked like a cat in the middle of the road. I stopped and saw something the size of a cat with a bunch of mice-sized creatures hanging all over it. They could've been mice but I assumed there were the children of this animal. Anyone know if there is an animal which lets its babies hang all over its back and stomach?

This has to be the wierdest thing I've ever seen.

After searching on google I see that's what it was... now it isn't so freaky anymore.

At first I didn't see the bodies of the babies so it looked like the thing had 6 heads.

How can someone that's at least 16 years old never have heard of an opossum before?

Do you know what a chipmunk looks like?

Oh, how I hate the 'possum. I'll give 'em a truck tire or two anytime I catch them in the road.

I don't remember ever seeing one, and I definately didn't know it carried a bunch of babies all over it. Plus it was 4am and my memory of the event isn't too great.

Opossums are everywhere, both in the country and the city. They thrive on garbage just like rats and mice.

I almost ran over a chipmunk last week. It ran into the middle of the road but got scared and kinda just sat there...I swerved to the right (b/c it was closer to the center of the road) to avoid hitting oncoming traffic..and it started running back to the right!! I flipped but luckily it stopped right before it would've gotten crushed under my car and ran back towards the other side.

I was so freaked..my heart was racing and I was so worried that I had hit it. eesh.
