What did guys wear before jeans became popular?

Must be something with region. At the U of Illinois jeans are really popular. Most everyone wears them around campus. At basketball games I would estimate atleast 90% of the students are wearing them, and most of the adults too.

In early grade school, we weren't allowed to wear dungarees. Finally got the dress code changed to allow "dress jeans", which didn't have visible rivets etc. But, that was nothing compared to winning the war to allow mini skirts!
