What did basement nerds do before existence of internet?

In 1970's?
How about in 1900s?
Or 1500s?

I have a feeling back in 1960s and earlier, they'd mostly STFU because they can't say shit behind monitors and bicker about the stupidest crap like little cowards.

Before the anonymity existed, people didn't care to listen to your stupid crap coming from a 5'5" 110lbs pasty kid. Unfortunately on internet with standardized texts, people end up listening to you or have to at least deal with you.

I'm not raging against anyone. Sometimes I get tired of internet bickering everywhere, even observing as a third person- all message boards, online games, youtube, everywhere virtual. I was actually not against the Blizzard's failed internet Real-ID system.

The defenders of this kind argue with 'freedom of speech'. Pfft, freedom of speech doesn't mean you spew homophobic racial slurs at people behind monitors. You're free to say what you want, just be sure to own up to it with integrity and legitimacy.

This is not directed towards ATOT community. I love you guys. If you happen to take it personally, then my stereotype of you is indeed true.

STFU noob. :p

Pre-internet we hung out in basements watching movies or we went outside and acted like hooligans. We also played video games and acted like assholes to each other, rather than random, anonymous people online.

Would knowing I'm not 5'5" and not a 110lb pasty kid make it better for you?

Well, we should just take your life, and put it into the 70's and 80's... I bet you would have spent a LOT of money on drugs, and board games... hell, i bet the money you spent on that ubersweet rig, would have gone to the same nerdy things back then too, like D&D

Pfft. Back in the 1500's, they played Dungeons and Dragons in a REAL dungeon with a REAL dragon, fool! The swords were sharp and there was no reset button, fool! They didn't roll a 12-sided die; they rolled the skull of their last victim with nasty sayings about his momma printed on 12 different sides of the skull, fool!
Word. And stuff...

There weren't any pussies in the 1500s. Any sign of cowardice would have lead to your death.

Dungeons and Dragons and then BBSing.

BBSing was much the same...everyone talking about getting laid and yet never left for more than 20-30mins at a time.

The ones that truly did usually only posted a few times a night and were told "DUDE YOU'D NEVER GET LAID YOU SUCK AT TRADEWARS2K"

1970s - Read Tolkien, and built shortwave radios.

1900s(assuming pre war) - read Popular Mechanics/Science, repaired electronics

1500s - worked the farm.

BBSes were alive and well until ~2000..

On behalf of the nerds of the 1970's and 1980's (including those who didn't live in the basement), we'd like to protest that the losers today living in the basement aren't smart enough to qualify as "nerds."

This. I remember some of my childhood friends and I getting into actual fist fights over cheap moves in street fighter, or over something in a Nintendo game.

Watch the basement/poker scene from this and you pretty much have it. Points to those that can name the movie.
