What dial-up ISP do you recommend?

My friend got her $5/mo Internet connection cut off because she switched providers. Now they want $20/mo for the same connection. She wants to know if there are any better deals out there for dial-up.

She doesn't need broadband, so that's out of the question. She is looking at something like Net Zero, but I wanted to come on here and find out from people with experience. I haven't had dial-up since that old ATT Worldnet stuff back in the day.

What do you recommend in the <$20 range?

I'll probably get flamed to hell and back for this, but ask around - I'm sure somebody's got a pile of freebie AOL CDs sitting around. Other than that, I'm not sure. What does NetZero charge for basic service now?

Here are over 150 cheap ISP's to choose from.

Access4Less.net was a great bargain at $4.95/mo, no spyware software to install. Just unlimited dialup every month which was reliable and consistent. Unfortunately they recently got out of the ISP business probably because it's nearly impossible to make a profit at their prices.

Shoot for $9.95/mo or less.

You're welcome, happy to help.

I've heard good things about Frys and Walmart ISP, they're $10/mo each.

I second allvantage. I've been using it since access4less went down and I've never had problems with it.

Used it for 2 years then along came SBC DSL for $15 last month. Too good to pass up.

My dad uses them. However, keep in mind these guys will not hold your hands if you have a problem. Here's part of their FAQ...

Technical Support really can't help you with your specific modem issues. It is almost impossible to talk you through it on the phone, and it is possible to mess your computer up pretty badly. If you are squeamish, try the easy stuff, and call in a pro for the parts that you can't handle

So if your friend can manage on her own, hit them up, it's only $5/mo.
