What Dell Laptop should I get

So there is an 8% university discount i get with Dell and I was looking in to buying a thin and light notebook so i don't have to bring my speakers, monitor, desktop back and forth. I am really not that familiar with the new laptops these days and specs. I want it to be thin and light centrino, at least 512 mb ram. I am hoping to spend less than $1500, $2000 would be pushing it a little bit. any thoughts and or suggestions as to what type of dell? insprion, lattitude? or another brand if it is not as expensive and good quality. thanks

Keep your eye on laptop deals on Fatwallet. Sometimes it'll be Dell, but don't overlook HP/Compaq and Acer.

An 8% discount is nice, but it's worth nothing if you can get a better laptop for less from another brand. BTW, HP/Compaq offers a 6% student discount if you sign up on their website. Their 12.1" widescreen Centrino laptop (very portable, sleek looking) was $898 for the base config last week. Toss in a couple upgrades and you're still under $1100 for a fast and extremely portable widescreen Centrino laptop.

Dell also had some excellent laptop deals last week on their Small Business website. I'm typing on one of them right now; Inspiron 1150, 2.6GHz, 256MB, 30GB, Combo-Drive, Wireless-G, etc. for $649. Might not be as thin or fast as some Centrinos, but for the price it's a great deal.

i'd get one with a pentium m, not a celeron or pentium 4. i have a pentium 4 inspiron from dell and it gets way too hot and slows down too much to play video games well. the new pentium m's have very good battery life
