Unfortunately, the scouts don't have a great track record when it comes to scout leaders.

What you may not be aware of is that the boy scouts organization has taken a proactive approach to the safety of youths. New rules require that no boy should ever be alone with an adult leader. Minimum of two adults at all times, no activities involving adults should occur outside of the full view of others. At no time are adults allowed where scouts change or shower. There is a course that is mandated to be an adult active in the troop. And it is mandated that if anyone sees an adult disregard these rules they will be excluded from troop activities.
And the boys go through a training booklet that they are to go over with their parents on how to recognize and report abusive activity.

I am aware and believe that the scouts are basically a good organization with good intent and do help build character. I also know that some of the most fucked up people I've ever known were Eagle scouts. I don't blame the scouts, I blame the adults (including the scout leaders) who saw the tendencies in these individuals and thought more scouting was the solution without giving any thought to other forms of behavior modification.

How well they deal with shit.
I've seen lots of folks that seemed mature on the outside (or at least older) and they couldnt deal with weird little stuff that popped up in their lives. A person is of low character if they consistently make bad decisions and/or cant deal with some sort of physical, intellectual, or emotional adversity.
