When will this info be unveiled? The cheapest 290x here is £30 more than my £400 sweet spot. I want 3 290's.

I'm hoping next Thursday. Probably be the card to get, $100 less than 290X for 90% of the performance. Slap an overclock on it and have a Titan for $450.

Just hope they launch with aftermarket options from the get-go. The reference cooler doesn't perform the best, particularly if you're planning to overclock. Once that is available, will be an amazing card. Going on the 290X performance, the 290 will likely match the GTX 780. I'm thinking a huge price cut is coming for the GTX 780 on the order of at least $150, at least if they want them to keep selling.

We will get some by next week. I definitely do not want a reference 290x though.

The 290 is smudged out. Looks to be some GOOD bang for the buck and most likely it's going to put some pretty decent pricing pressure on NVidia.

Considering its starting at $549 it looks really good. I mean I got my 7970Ghz when it was around $470 which was maybe a couple of months after it came out. Looks like I will be looking for an upgrade once they have more specs reviewed.

What Kenmitch posted is exciting. I can't wait to see what 290 CF looks like. I'm probably only going to spring for 1 card, but if it looks right, I would love to have Crossfire to drive an Overlord Tempest.

This is just about the most exciting time in PC gaming for quite a while in terms of prices dropping (hopefully) and competition. :) Really looking forward to reviews and hopefully non-reference coolers.

So you think it will come in at $450? I was hoping $400, as I don't want to go above that. Hell, it is already $100 over my previous maximum allowance, but my 460 is getting long in the tooth...

Well since a reference 290x goes for about $549 the non x version would probably be around $400-499 and maybe a bit more for non reference.

I really interested in the R9 290 is probably gonna be cheaper and on par with a 780, also I highly advice to stay clear of the reference card, AMD did what you would expect to cut the cost, they slapped a crappy cooler on to it witch I don't mind, this card would smash the titan in the reviews if it wasn't for the reference cooler, when it gets to 95C the card starts to throttle down and the ref cooler fan only goes to 55% speed.
Only reason I'm upgrading tho is because of BF4 and I really need the extra memory, my 670 is bottlenecking, memory wise at 1600p. Cheers

AMD isn't going to undercut themselves like that so... yeah... Either save more, buy a 7970 GHz/R9 280X, or just wait for 20nm.

After I see some reviews of their reference cards I may stick with what I have now and wait for the 20nm cards too. If it's a drastic upgrade to a 290x I'll get one, but it's best to wait and see where they come in.

Still trying to get my head around the new naming convention. What exactly does the "x" suffix indicate vs. the non "x"?

It seems to indicate that it's a chip with all cores unlocked, but it might just be meaningless.

That's fairly obvious. I'm looking for something more specific...

I don't know either for sure have researched in the recent past and asked on the forum, but of course means fastest in its class (290x/290) whether that is just though lower Boost clock and/or maybe possible lower amount of sp's (2560?) on the 290 this time around vs. the 290x?

We are going to have to wait for the official specs to see for sure on spec differences as I haven't seen any info on X vs. non X differences..

There isn't any symbolism or hidden meaning. AMD slapped an X on the back to show its more powerful to the consumer. That generally means more clocks, more shaders, etc. You'll have to dig into the individual specs to suss out the details.

Higher clock and other speeds but the official speeds have not been stated yet at least for the boost clock.

Minimum appears to be 727 MHz.

At that point the fan will go over any established fan cap to keep 727 MHz according to AT review.
