i have a hp 930c printer. it's about 4 years old. it works great. i even bought the optional duplexer unit that allows u to print double sided. Duplexer

the problem is that it always uses the color catridge to print black. i have it set to always print black. and when there's text on the screen, it uses the black catridge. when there's a pic (ie: the anandtech icon on top of this page), it uses the color cartridge to print it black.

needless to say, i waste alot of color ink. i also have 2 extra hp45 ink catridges.

anyway, i'm looking for a hp printer currently on sale thats:
1) compatible w/the duplexer
2) takes hp 45 ink
3) inexpensive

Any suggestions? (Link pls)

THX!

the duplexer works on "pretty" much every hp machine. all the ones i've seen have the slot in the back.
as for one that uses the 45....that's tougher. i think that all their new machines use those 56/57/58 combos. and even then the last few models i saw that took the 45 had the duplex already. the 45 is a much better cartridge though, it holds about twice the amount of ink as the newer ones.

You might take a look at the 6122 which uses the #45's. Unfortunately, it is not cheap as it sells for about $180. Maybe a coupon and free-after-rebate item would lower your price a few bucks. That printer might actually have a duplexer already included. HP seems to be the only ones offering duplexing capability so there is not much of a choice unless you want to switch to the #56 and #57's.
