What current card is comparable to a 7900GTO?

I'm just guessing here, but I think you're wrong. The 9500GT or HD 4550 (does it exist?) have no memory bandwith at all. A 7900gto is probably on 9600gt/9600gs levels, or maybe HD 4670-ish? Probably a bit slower, but not as slow as 9500gt, which you can't game on at all.

7900GTO was around -5% (0 up to -10%) slower than 7900GTX.

7900GTX is from around same speed with a 9500GT per MHz up to 2X faster than a 9500GT per MHz depending on the game/resolution/quality options/AA & AF levels.

To make it simpler:

650MHz core/690MHz GDDR3 mem 7900GTO 512MB has performance equal to a 650MHz core/900MHz GDDR3 mem 9500GT 512MB,
up to 650[/b]MHz core/900MHz GDDR3 mem 9600GSO 512MB.

For example in newer games (2007 and beyond) (high quality settings) like COD4,COJ,Crysis,Stalker,UT3 will be just as fast as a o.c. 9500GT 512MB, and in older games (2006 and before) like Quake 4,SC3,FC,Prey will be just as fast as a 9600GSO 512MB.

I suppose a 9600GSO 512MB or a HD4670 512MB will be a good solution (and of cource faster overall)
