Air miles/Hotel cards when chosen with the right promo is the way to go. Best promos are at the beginning of the calendar year.

My Favorite:
Starwood AMEX

Other Good Ones:
Citibank American Advantage
First USA United Visa
Hilton AMEX
MBNA Amtrak (converts to 3 airlines)

However the three best non-airline miles cc's IMHO are:

1) MBNA AAA
$0 annual fee
2.9% introductory balance transfer rate for 6 months
VISA card benefits (if it qualifies)
5% rebate on all gas purchases
MBNA's ONE TIME USE CC's

2) Chase Perfect Card
$0 annual fee assuming you make 9 or more purchases a year
0% introductory balance transfer rate
VISA card benefits including warranty manager, I buy all my computer/electronics with this cc.
6% on gas purchases within first 90 days
3% on gas purchases after first 90 days
1% rebate on ALL non-gas purchases credited to your statement every month, very nice!

3) Amex CostCo or Starwood cc.
Too lazy to type anymore, do your own damn research :p

FW has an excellent Finance Forum with great threads such as Best credit card rewards.

I despise MBNA.

But I have the Chase PerfectCard and it's very good.

I'm interested in the new Chase Double Platinum card coming out soon. So little info on it yet.

btw pick Mastercard over Visa whenever you have choice.

It's suppose to be better for the rest of the decade. Visa has been slow in upgrading for the future as compared to Mastercard.

(that according to financials I've read)

Hey Rossman,

I just applied for the Chase card, that seems really good... but i just have a question: Does 9 purchases mean that you can make those 9 purchases in one month and then waive the annual fee? Just making sure.

Thanks in advance

Been using discover a long time but will ditch them soon as their cash back program has become to the point of being insulting.

Correct, 9 purchases a year (or in 1 month) and the $19 annual fee is waived.

I just have my DSL charged to my cc every month, that's 12 purchases a year :)
