I know at Discover Card the BT rates are 9.9% if you carry a balance, 5.9% if your card is inactive, and 1.9% to 0.0% if you just opened an account. If tell them you aren't interested the will drop the rate 2% points if the rate is over 3.9%.

The best I have found is
0% APR for 4 months:

Juniper Mastercard

I was hoping to find 6 months....

The Fleet Titanium and Platinum have 2.99% for 6 months.

The zero% is the better deal.

Make sure you look beyond the introductory APR. That is what you will be paying after the "special" ends. Anything less than 15% is good, anything over is a waste of time and money. Try to get approved for a card under 10%.

Just start filling out all the applications you can, and once you get two or three stop. Avoid Store credit cards (sears, filenes, walmart, jcpenny) like the plague, they will bag ya good.

Once you get your card, make a purchase or two. Pay it off, and then call them. Ask them for a lower APR. If they wont give it to you, or if they tell you that it's not possible, tell them that you want to talk to someone about closing the account. They will put you in touch with someone that will give you a lower rate.

flippin,

I really don't care about what the APR is after the intro period since I am just looking for a 4-6 month free loan. I just moved to NYC for my new job and needed to furnish my new apt. I already have some great cards with 9.9% APR's... I just wanted a card to offload my current balances. I will be able to pay off the balances within 3 months easily.

Paying it off right away huh? Well then, they usually have a lower rate for balance transfers that last longer than four months. My fiance get's em in the mail three to four times a week. I intercept them and *snip* lose *snip* them on the way back inside.

Anything Mastercard is usually a good bet.
