What CPU upgrade for A7V266-E?

Have an Asus A7V266-E 1.07 mobo (133/100 FSB and BIOS 1011) with Athlon XP 1900+(Model 6)(Palomino) CPU. CPU fan getting noisy during startup, so considering upgrading CPU at same time. http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx for my mobo says if I go up to BIOS 1015.001, it will accept Athlon XP 2400+(Model 10)(Thorton) - at my current BIOS, will accept Athlon XP 2600+(266FSB)(Model 8)(Thoroughbred)

Would appreciate any advice on which CPU would be better and why. Thanks much.

the Athlon XP 2600+ will be better considering Thorton is a halved Barton with 256kb L2 cache (or the same amount that the Thoroughbred has) Since 2600+ has a higher mhz frequency thus it has the higher rating in speed. So 2600+ will be a better cpu if you can find it for around $70.
