I am in the market for a new cpu/mobo combo. It must be compatible with my PC2700 333MHz RAM. What do you recommend? My current cpu is dead and it was an Athlon XP 2400. I don't need the latest and greatest, but I would like a little upgrade since I'm already spending money. There are some Athlon XP 3200 w/ mobo combos for around $170. Should I go with this or an Intel 4 with HT? Any advice is appreciated.

p.s. if an Intel, what core?

If needed what you need I would

Go to my favorite online vendor and use the mobo search engine

Put in

Slot type

Bus Speed

etc..etc

find what will work in the price range that I like and start reading reviews there and on the web.

Then I would come here and ask if anybody is having any problems with the ones that I am intrested in.

I know a few mobos that are under $50 that might work good for you but some people might say they won't do what they want or are having probs with.

It you get the combo you will probabaly pay a few extra dollars. They may be tested but if you buy from a place you trust then why pay more.

Good luck

Try an A64 2800+ (better than an XP3200+, and usually cheaper) and Epox 8KDA3 series (I think that's it) mobo. PC2700 won't impact performance much at all.
