Hi,

I have a slightly older Dual Core 2.66 (E6700??? I think) Ghz processor. My video card is an old 8800gt. I'm on Vista Home version, with plent of hard drive space. I wanted to upgrade the video card to the 768 or 1 MB new Nvidia offering, but was wondering if the processor would be a serious bottleneck. I'm willing to accept some limitation as I don't necessarily crank the resolution (and compared to the 8800GT, anything would be an improvement), but I want a little future proofing (and maybe two cards in a new rig later). I know there could be other issues, but this is my primary concern. I am casual gaming plus level of a user. I usually don't overclock anymore- I have little time and less frustration available......

Thanks

I have a Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB with an old Core 2 Duo E6400 at 2.6GHz running at 1680x1050. For me, I don't see an obvious bottleneck in gaming, especially the frames per second with games like Crysis and Stalker in the 30's on very high settings. This performance is on par with the performance reported in professional reviews with much more powerful CPUs. I guess it depends on what games you play and if they are more CPU intensive or not. I think you should be fine with either choice.

There was someone who wanted to upgrade to a GTX460 with a 1024x768 monitor, so resolution is pretty important.

And no one has done any benches with different CPUs, It could be the 460 needs a beefier CPU to reach its full potential like the other FERMI cards. Then again it might not.
