What cpu fan should I get for a SVC golden gate?

I'm going to be getting a SVC golden gate hs for my athlon xp 1800, but the 40cfm/48db fan that comes with it is way too loud. Which of the other fans listed on the page should I get instead? link
I'd like it to be quieter than my current setup, which has a 5700 rpm delta (not sure on the cfm/db).

all those fans have an equal tradeoff whether it be price, cfm, or db...but i suggest not picking anything under 30cfm for an xp1800

Is there any cons to using a 60/80mm adapter? And if I went that route, which fan should I get?
thanks

I don't know of any. It will add about 2 inches to the height, so clearance may be a factor, but the Goldengate is pretty low profile anyway, so I wouldn't think there would be a problem there. You might want to check out the fan linked to here. They are supposed to be pretty good and there is some feedback there in the thread. Otherwise just get one with the cfm & db rating you are looking for.

I wonder if any of those fans would be good for a 1.2 GHz Duron? 80mm heatsinks aren't an option because most will not fit my motherboard, so I'm also looking at the golden gate with the quietest 60mm fan.

Don't get any of those. Get one of the 60MM-80MM fan adapters they have and a good 80MM fan.

been there done that. it doesn't work well with that heatsink. if the HS was made to be sucking instead of blowing it would work but the GG with thin copper plates needs to have a fan blow down. I had a GG with a 80 then a 92mm both did just the same as the 60mm (just a lil quieter). just get a good 60mm and save the dough. adaptors are just gimmicks unless set them to suck which most Heat sinks are not designed to do.

good luck

I'd op for one of those perdy blue led fans w/ 32.5cfm, 28db and a built in rheostat :p Those are shweet and look very nice, especially if you have a plexi window :)

One word of advice besides the fan on this heatsink is check for compatibility. I prdered this HSF about three months ago and when it arrived I noticed it has a huge clip, I treid to install on an ECS K7VTA3 Rev 2.0 and it would not fit it came into contact and covered one DIMM slot and there was no way I was going to remove a stick of ram to fit this bad boy. SVC was cool and refuned my money.......

Just my 2 cents.....

I think with most heatsinks, you blow air onto the heatsink. But sucking hot air away doesn't sound illogical either.

with the thin copper vents it needs a fan blowing period. or else the middle part of the HS will not get enough air...
