My bad on Sabbath ... put them in the wrong category.

Didn't Hendrix pretty much grow up in the US?

I thought he was from Seattle

Got that wrong, born in Seattle, but the Hendrix Experience formed in England and therefore isn't US

Tough question, but I'm leaning towards the UK. Maybe up til the late 60s the US, but then the Brits really came into their own.

As for the last decade, I can't say....

Because 50% of it sucked?

Add another ten years and multiply that 50% by 1.85.

Haven't listened to much of it so can't really make a judgement. What I have heard has left me largely unimpressed though.

Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Clapton, the Who

For some reason I always thought Zeppelin was an American band. With that said I believe that rock and roll was invented by Americans (Chuck Berry basics, Elvis Presley popularity, Jimi Hendrix solos/style) but perfected by British (Zeppelin basically sums that up). Even John Lennon and Eric Clapton credited Chuck Berry with the invention of rock and roll.

Hahah, as a matter of fact, I'm listening to "Baby, You Can Drive My Car" by The Beatles right now :)

UK by a long margin, but remember that, "The blues had a baby and they called it rock and roll."

US, no question - even though a lot of the big rock groups may have started from the UK, they really took off once they got to the ol' US - nevermind the fact that most, if not all of the music heritage of rock is derived from US music . . ..

i think the history goes something like (correct me if I'm wrong):

irish folk music + african rhythmic traditional tribal stuff => slave tunes, prison songs which evolved into (& coexisted with) blues.

old country folk and traditional gospel music picks up blues technique & rhythm and rock & roll is born.

America mostly forsakes the blues (rock and roll) for Pop (Beatles, somewhat) and Motown, the Brits pick up the blues (rock & roll) and reinvigorate it with limeys like the Yardbirds, the Stones, etc. (thank God for that)

So I guess my answer would be, America brought the influences together and invented (blues) rock (blues) & (blues) roll (blues), the Brits took it to a new level. If I had to survive on a desert island, I'd take Brit Blues/Rock over any other.

Maybe being a kid growing up under daily Nazi bombardment gives you the blues, though you don't know what it is. When you're old enough to get your musical sh!t together, the blues has come across the pond and it suits your taste perfectly.

lol nevermind
