I remember watching the Millenium TV specials and it was cool to watch the different places celebrate. The first one was some little island (presumably Christmas Island) that had a really fun native-dancing-thing, as I recall.

Millennium Island in the Kiribati archipelago. They actually renamed it to Millennium Island just becuase it was the first land to enter the new Millennium.
