What could cause this..

So.. I get my new neon cords, plug them in. Turn my computer on. Smell something funny. See a spark come from my NEC CD Rom, and instantly turn off my computer...followed by smoke and one HECK of a bad smell...

What the heck would cause this?

heheh dunno but the sequence of event played out in my head makes me laugh

sure u connected the cords right? n dunno bout them touching the case an grounding with the case rather than thru the cable? i dunno i aint no electrician

At the time it sparked it was in the same spot as it had been from when i had last been on the computer, and the case hadnt been moved.. so I fail to beleive it could of moved, and if so, they it'd take alot more than ground to make it smoke/spark...be ruined
