What could cause these problems?

My friends computer is really starting to have serious problems. I can rarely get it to go into Windows Xp. Usually it freezes right at the loading of windows with wierd little lines all over. Or it will freeze within seconds of getting in Windows. There is no virus After checking.
His computer was having the same problems so we purchased a new case/w Power supply, a New motherboard, and tried a diffrent video card and it still does not work proerly.

What could be causing these problems?

P4 1.90
Geforce 3 Ti200
MB with intagrated sound and network
Generic CD rom
Western Digital 40gig
198 SDram

Can you get into safe mode? If so .. start...run...type msconfig and select diagnostic startup and then try to reboot into normal mode again.

Try taking everything out of the machine except for cpu, 1 stick of ram, HD, and video card and see what happens. You might have a bad ram module or other component. Is the CPU fan spinning at full speed?

If it boots into safe mode then you have a software issue. How old is the computer? How long has the problem existed? What changed just before the problem first occurred?

hi Dan 🙂

sounds like it needs a reformat and reinstall fresh on the OS(make the drive Slave ..do not forget the jumper..to another drive in another system to grab any valued stuffs beforehand..) then add in the rest of the components ..have found that after each item (unto like the old OSes 🙁) that a Shutdown then Bring up system after each is best to help isolate which causes conflicts..also the order in which pieces and their attending software can cause the troubles like that ..good luck and let others know thru this thread your progress

Hi buddy, what's going on? 🙂

Blammo300 may indeed need to reformat and do a fresh install. However, I always like to see if something like a driver rollback (or upgrade) resolves the problem.
