What could cause a monitor to buzz?

So I figured out that my original 2405 was buzzing at anything below 100 brightness so I sent it back. Then the replacement came and it had the same buzzing. Now the third one has it as well and I'm starting to wonder if it could be something else causing it. I've already swapped out the power cord in case it was a feedback problem. Could it be my graphics card? Or maybe the DVI cable?

Seriously, The buzzing is probably the AC/DC conversion circuitry in the monitor. Where does the buzzing sound like it's coming from - inside the monitor or the graphics card or the DVI cable?

I have heard of some 2405fpw's making buzzing noises - if you're sure it's the monitor then it's quite possibly this issue.

I can't seem to pinpoint a specific location. Could the graphics card or cable even cause this sort of thing?

I'm just thinking my luck can't be so bad as to get 3 defective monitor's in a row.

The graphics card could be the culprit. What kind of card do you have?

My buddy's X850XT PE makes a strange high pitched buzz that is very annoying sounding. My X850XT PE did the first time I plugged the card, but then went away permanently after I rebooted.

BFG 7800GT. What type of signal could the card be transmitting that could cause the monitor to whine?

But seriously, I wonder if your incoming power could be the culprit. If you know somebody with a UPS, maybe you could borrow it and see if that cleans up the noise.

I've read a ton of threads about buzzing 2405's, and I don't even have one nor care about it. So yeah its a common problem. Probably not from your graphics card or cable, though maybe you could find a correlation between video card and buzzing, as well as manufacturing date or revision. The brightness has something to do with it as well. I would personally just turn the brightness down and have the problem solved, especially since I only need about 50% on my 2005FPW; these things are bright as hell.

I have the brightness turned down to zero on my 2005 and it is still plenty bright. my pupils vanish if i put it on 100 percent

So that's why bears keep going after my computer

I've got the monitor connected to a 1000va APC unit. The tower is on a seperate 1000va unit so I don't think that could be the problem.

The backlight modulating to adjust to anything below 100 causes a buzzing noise. I know when I turn the knob on my lamp light down a bit, I can't stand that noise.

See that's what the problem was with my original 2405. But I can't imagine that I've gotten 3 in a row that have all had the exact same problem. So I'm trying to eliminate any other possible causes.

hmm. Well... they COULD be sending you exact same one back again. unless your sending your 'defective' one back after you receive a new one.
